Everyone in the event hall was surprised when SX Superstar Kevin Windham walked out and handed out the awards for the Honda of Lafayette "Winter"series.
Kevin did turn the tables on the award winners by making them sign HIS t-shirt. Kevin spent the evening handing out awards, posing for pictures and just hanging out with the kids that look up to him. He is truly a first class person.

Highlights from the Winter series

Being Carlon's very first series and race on a 65 cc bike, we didn't really know what to expect when we took on the Honda of Lafayette Winter 5 race series. We were just hoping for a top five in the series final standings.
After 5 long exciting rounds, Carlon emerged with 3rd firmly in his grasp after the final race in New Iberia,La.
Carlon plans to rest a few weekends the hit the track hard again

Round 1 - As the "Honda of Lafayette" Winter series kicked off in New Iberia, Carlon was extremely anxious to get his first race on a 65 under way. After tangling with the clutch at the starting gate, in the 1st moto and a satisfying effort in the 2nd moto, Carlon started the series off with a 4th place points standing going into round 2.
Round 2 - in Hammond La at CCR MX would turn out to show much improvement on the Kawasaki kx65. Carlon picked up quite a bit of speed and looked really comfortable in the corners. Even though he slipped in a corner, he was still able to move up to 3rd in points overall, and only 8 points out of 2nd.
With round 3 coming up in 3 weeks, Carlon still has time to train and improve

After riding a 50cc since he was just 4 years old, Carlon has made the transition to a Kawasaki KX65. Carlon is still a little short for it and can't really touch the ground enough to actually hold himself up for a long time, he is out on the track practicing every weekend and will be race ready soon

It was the first race to kick off the Friday Nights series, Hot Summer Nights, just outside of Las Vegas at the Sandy Vally MX Park.
Carlon entered the 50cc 7-9 class and the 50cc open. It was a great night for racing, not hot at all and the track was in great shape.
This would be Carlon's first race with new KTM SX and the O'Neal gear looked awesome. The 50cc 7-9 was race #3 and the 50cc OPEN was race #4, so there would be little time for a break in between.
Carlon took second in race 3 then headed to the pits where his dad was waiting. They quickly removed his helmet and drank a cold Gatorade then put the helmet on and Carlon was off to the starting gate to meet his mom who was waiting for him there.
Soon after the gate dropped and Carlon was off again. It was a very fun filled evening and Carlon is preparing for the 2nd round coming up in July

After months of waiting to move Carlon up to the 7-8 year old class, We were finally able to purchase a new 2008 KTM SX 50 from Santa Monica KTM/Honda.
The lead law ban prevented the move for several months but the ban will not be enforced for the next year or so. As soon as we found out that we could purchase a new bike, we started shopping around and bought it as soon as we could.
Carlon has been practicing in the desert near Boulder City, getting used tro the power of the new KTM. He is scheduled to race his first race in the his new clas in a couple of weeks

Carlon attended former Supercross Champ, Donnie Hansen's MX Academy the weekend of Easter in Palmdale California.
Donnie worked with Carlon on proper attack position, cornering, starting gate as well as jumping.
Naturally Carlon was the youngest and the smallest but thatdidn't stop him from performing like a pro
