Personal History
Hello, my name is Andy King and I am 39 years old. I live in Corona, California and I have been riding and racing motocross since 1972. My family was into Motocross. My aunt and uncle, Shirley and Jerry Shore had a motocross club in during the 70's and 80's. It was called AME, American Motocross Enterprises. I raced with them at Indian Dunes and Saddleback Park on an Indian 50. I rode for a hop up shop called Cycle Town which was owned by Ted Moorewood. I had the fastest Indian 50 at the track. Myself and Mouse McCoy made a commercial together in 1974 for Kawasaki at Indian Dunes.. We were promoting a mini bike.I was 5 years old. My dad and Keith McCarty, team Yamaha, were best buddies and Keith used to wrench for my dad so I was always at the track either cheering for my dad or racing myself. I love this sport and plan on racing as long as my body holds up. I try and ride at least once a month and race twice a month...when I'm not hurt. I am currently preparing to compete in the 24 hr. endurance race at Glen Helen in October.
Riding Goals
My ultimate goal for 2009 is to Finish #1 in the Over The Hill Gang Racing Association again. I was the #1 rider in 2006. I will do a few Grand Prix`s also...Day in the Dirt, Elsinore Grand Prix, Race Around the Lake in Castaic and the Adelanto Grand Prix. I also plan to compete in the Vet World Championships at Glen Helen. If all goes well I may try and qualify for Loretta Lynn's. I was not able to race much in 2008 as I sustained a shoulder injury in January and have been recovering from a couple of surgeries for the majority of a year. I am back on the bike now and plan to ride at least once a week to get ready for 2009.
Competitive Highlights
I had a great year in 2006. I won three Over The Hill Gang National Events and scored a 2nd in the 4th one. That was enough to win the OTHG National Championship in my class. I also won the 6 race summer sieries. I won the Elsinore Grand Prix, in my class, in 2003, 2004, and 2005. My ultimate accomplishment was winning the #1 plate overall in the Over The Hill Gang Racing Association. It was very difficult to do since we race from Jan. thru Dec. at least 2 times a month. I was able to stay healthy and consistant for the whole year and beat out 300 other riders for the #1 plate. I hope to win it again in 09.
